The opportunities that digital cinema technologies create for cinemas, arts centres and festivals are major areas of interest. Many of my projects, especially involving venues in smaller towns and rural or coastal areas are being developed as 100% digital cinemas to take advantage of new business models and programming opportunities. I regularly attend and participate in conferences, seminars and exhibitions on digital cinema.
Notable trends include the huge amount of interest in digital 3D systems, the rapidly developing range of 'alternative content' such as live opera and theatre, and - gradually - the emergency of new designs for cinema auditoria. For several of the smaller or rural venues I work with, these are important developments.
